The Challenge

Phantom Creek Estates faced significant challenges in pinpointing specific areas of winter crop damage and existing plant health due to the vast area covered by six vineyard sites totaling 200+ acres.

Manual assessments are very labour intensive, inefficient and inconsistent. Without precise information on the extent of damage and existing conditions, it's difficult to allocate resources efficiently.

Our Solution

Geosurv Solutions Inc. worked with Phantom Creek estates efficiently completing the remote sensing data collection utilizing drones. The data from each field was processed to produce various plant health maps and other site metrics such as color orthomosaic maps, plant counts, topographic maps and agriculture specific AI detections.

Results

By leveraging this technology, they realized significant cost savings, improved the quality of their grapes, and ultimately provided another tool to produce exceptional wines efficiently.

Drone plant health mapping assisted Phantom Creek Estates to optimize labor operations, pinpoint areas requiring treatment, and help plan replanting projects.

Mike Anderson B. Sc.
Director of Farming Phantom Creek Estates
In 2024 we enlisted Geosurv to help us with remote sensing drone data collection following extensive winter damage to our nearly 200 acres. From this data, we were able to generate a variety of plant health maps that allowed us to assess our vineyards and support decision making from a different perspective and more effectively than relying on ground surveying alone.
